About Legacy Mission Village
Legacy Mission Village is a Nashville-based nonprofit founded by refugees for refugees, offering education, community, and relational support to help families successfully integrate into American society.
By Refugees, For Refugees
Legacy Mission Village grew from the vision of William and Ebralie Mwizerwa, who arrived in the United States as refugees after surviving the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. Their own experiences shaped a deep belief that rebuilding life after displacement is not a short process; it requires patience, relationship, and time.
In 2001, they began a refugee ministry under the oversight of Nashville nonprofit African Leadership. In 2010, Legacy Mission Village became a separate nonprofit that grew to help neighbors learn English, understand school systems, and navigate daily life in their new country. As more families sought connection and guidance, this community of support grew further, and today we continue to walk alongside refugee families as they pursue stability, healing, and hope.

Our Approach
LMV is built on long-term relationships and mutual respect. Refugee families are active participants in the Village, contributing resilience, culture, insight, and leadership to our community. Learning flows in every direction, and progress is guided by listening as much as teaching.
As a Christian organization, our faith shapes our posture of hospitality, humility, and hope. We believe people flourish in community, and we follow the way of Christ by creating a welcoming space where people of all backgrounds and beliefs are valued and lifted up.
Today
We remain committed to walking with families for the long haul—celebrating milestones, navigating challenges, and continuing to build a community where everyone belongs.
Our work is sustained through the generosity of donors, the dedication of volunteers, and long-term partnerships rooted in trust.
Our Partners
